Sometimes I find myself cautiously holding back as if to hide. It’s very subtle and a new level of awareness I’ve discovered, again, on my own. It’s like I am hiding my wings, because I fear flying in some areas of my life. All this when I’ve even been told by a wise friend to soar like an eagle above the crows/fear. I’ve discovered three reason why I struggle. First, I think it’s just me worrying about the unknown and what I can’t control. Secondly, there will always be other human beings who specifically live and thrive on judging others. Third, in various situations I am often adjusting to fit into experiences without awareness.
Many strive to fit a mold because that’s what we are taught, fail to hear and listen to guides that show us the way best for our individual life experiences, or we settle on what others say because we don’t want to do the work searching within ourselves for answers. It takes time and often decades to figure out that there is really no mold to fit and there is no reason to hide our wings. Our wings represent who we are and they guide us on this journey. When we find the courage to be ourselves our wings will take us to places, we could not imagine and we’ll learn to be deeply grateful for the life they’ve provided. We are multifaceted human beings and play many roles. I believe, if we understood the core of who we are, we could all find peace in the many roles we play a part in.
There is a song that I thoroughly enjoy that brought me this new found awareness by Eric Roberson called, Don’t Hide Your Wings. The song is about relationships but on point for this story.
Enjoy!
